Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Magenta 75ml
The vivid warm pink-red: a primary magenta for mixing purples, roses, and contemporary colour work.

Magenta is the vivid warm pink-red in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range, based on PR122 (Quinacridone Magenta). As a mixing primary, it is essential: combined with Phthalo Blue or Ultramarine Blue it produces a wide range of clean, vivid purples and violets; mixed with yellows it shifts through warm pink-orange and salmon. Its semi-transparent quality gives thick applications a glowing, jewel-like intensity that opaque pinks cannot achieve. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds sculptural texture and knife marks without slumping despite the transparent pigment. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Magenta is a mixing engine: use it with Ultramarine Blue for vivid purples, with Phthalo Blue for the cleanest violet, or with Lemon Yellow for hot coral-pink. Straight from the tube it reads as a vivid hot pink ideal for roses, tropical flowers, and contemporary abstract passages.

What Makes This Colour Essential

Consistency
Ultra-Thick Heavy Body
Magenta delivers the full ultra-thick Dimension Acrylic Premium formula. Its transparent pigment does not reduce the body: it sculpts, peaks, and holds texture on the surface.
Mixing
Cleanest Route to Vivid Purple
Quinacridone Magenta is the preferred red pigment for mixing clean, vivid purples in acrylic. No other red in the range gives the same clarity of violet when combined with blue pigments.
Intensity
Transparent Jewel Pink-Red
PR122 Quinacridone Magenta delivers glowing, jewel-like intensity in thick application. The semi-transparent quality means the colour seems to glow from within, particularly in impasto work.
Lightfastness
Blue Wool Level 7+ / ASTM I
Rated at Blue Wool Level 7 or above (equivalent to ASTM I), Dimension Acrylic Premium Magenta is formulated to remain unchanged for more than 100 years under museum-quality lighting conditions. Purpose-built for archival and professional work.

Mixing with Magenta

Magenta is the most versatile mixing red in the range. Its position in the spectrum makes it an ideal mixing primary for both purple and warm pink directions.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium

Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

Is Magenta useful in a limited palette?

Yes. Quinacridone Magenta is widely used as the red primary in a CMY (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow) limited palette because it is the cleanest warm red-pink for mixing both vivid purples (with blue) and warm oranges and corals (with yellow). It is less effective for deep opaque reds, where Permanent Red or Brilliant Red are stronger.

Can I use Dimension Acrylic Magenta with a palette knife?

Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.

Is Quinacridone Magenta lightfast?

Yes. PR122 carries a Blue Wool Level 7+ rating in Dimension Acrylic Premium, making it fully suitable for professional and archival painting.

How long does Dimension Acrylic Magenta take to dry?

Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.

What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Magenta on?

Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
