Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Burnt Sienna 75ml
Warm red-brown earth: the most useful single brown in any palette for flesh, landscape, and natural darks.

Burnt Sienna is arguably the most useful brown in any acrylic palette and one of the most important colours in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range. Based on PR101 (calcined iron oxide), the calcined form of Raw Sienna, it delivers a warm, red-tinged brown with a luminous, transparent quality that makes it ideal for glazing, underpainting, and mixing the most naturalistic dark and shadow tones. Mixed with Ultramarine Blue, it makes the most convincing neutral dark in painting. Mixed with Titanium White, it moves through warm peach and flesh tones. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds knife marks and sculptural texture without slumping. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium

Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

Why is Burnt Sienna mixed with Ultramarine Blue considered the best dark in a palette?

The two colours are near-complements in the spectrum, meaning they cancel each other toward a neutral dark when mixed. Unlike black mixed with a colour, a Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue dark retains luminosity and can be adjusted easily toward warm (more Sienna) or cool (more Ultramarine). The result reads as a natural, atmospheric dark rather than a flat, dead one.

Can I use Dimension Acrylic Burnt Sienna with a palette knife?

Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.

Is Burnt Sienna good for portrait work?

Yes. Burnt Sienna mixed with Titanium White gives warm flesh tones for portraits. As a transparent glaze over dried flesh passages, it adds warmth and depth without completely covering the underlayer. It is also useful for warm shadow passages on skin.

How long does Dimension Acrylic Burnt Sienna take to dry?

Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.

What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Burnt Sienna on?

Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
