★ Art Shed Staff Tip
For clean fills on a big shape, outline it first with the 6mm, then fill with overlapping strokes all going the same direction. Let it dry, then do a second coat at right angles for solid, streak free colour.
Sets or single colours?
Sets come in colour families including Classic, Pastel, Neutral, Metallic, Icon, Mono and Fluoro. Singles come in 20 colours for topping up your favourites.
How to start your marker
- Shake it. Cap on, shake hard until you hear the mixing ball rattle, then keep shaking a few seconds more. The pigment settles when the marker sits still.
- Prime it. Cap off, press the nib down on scrap paper a few times until paint flows into the tip. Gentle pumps, not a stabbing frenzy, or you will flood the nib.
- Paint it. Work light to dark and let each layer dry before you go over it. Kent Urban colours are opaque, so a light colour sits happily on top of a dark one once it is dry.
- Store it flat. Cap clicked on and lying horizontal keeps the paint spread evenly through the barrel, so the marker is ready next time.

Questions about Kent Urban 6mm Medium markers
Is 6mm too thick for lettering?
Not for anything bigger than a gift tag. It is ideal for signs, posters and headings. For small writing, pair it with the 1mm or 3mm.
Can I paint a skateboard with Kent Urban markers?
Yes. Lightly sand the deck, wipe it clean, paint in thin layers and let it cure, then finish with a clear sealer. A board you plan to ride needs that sealer to protect the art from wear.
Do 6mm markers streak?
Not if you work wet edge to wet edge and let each coat dry before the next. Opaque paint covers best in two thin coats rather than one heavy one.
