Art Spectrum Studio Blend Oil Cadmium Yellow Deep 40ml is the richest, warmest yellow in the range: a deep, golden, amber-yellow that sits between the primary Cadmium Yellow Hue and the fully orange Cadmium Orange Hue. It is the yellow of warm late-afternoon light, of ripe wheat, of antique gold, and of the amber and honey tones that Cadmium Yellow Hue alone cannot quite reach. Cadmium Yellow Deep is particularly useful for landscape painters working the warm hour of Australian late-afternoon light. Mixed into Naples Yellow or Titanium White for sky, it gives a richer, deeper golden warmth than Cadmium Yellow Hue. Used directly in the warm areas of a landscape, it gives the deep amber-gold of last light on dry grass, ochre rock, and golden sandstone. It also gives richer, more amber secondary oranges when mixed with Cadmium Red Hue than Cadmium Yellow Hue does.

Art Spectrum has manufactured artists' materials at their Epping, Victoria facility for over six decades. Studio Blend Oil is triple-milled in refined linseed oil with ASTM I rated pigments throughout the 26-colour range.

Mixing With Cadmium Yellow Deep

Cadmium Yellow Deep produces richer, deeper warm secondary mixtures than Cadmium Yellow Hue. Mixed with Cadmium Red Hue or Cadmium Orange Hue it gives deep, rich amber-orange tones. With French Ultramarine or Phthalo Blue it gives warmer, more olive greens that read as naturalistic, muted yellow-green rather than the brighter, cooler greens that Lemon Yellow produces.

Cadmium Yellow Hue is a mid-warm primary yellow, brighter and lighter in value. Cadmium Yellow Deep is deeper, darker, and more orange-biased: a golden amber-yellow rather than a primary yellow. Cadmium Yellow Hue is the more versatile all-purpose primary; Cadmium Yellow Deep is the specialist choice for deeper warm yellow and golden amber passages.

What is the difference between Cadmium Yellow Deep and Cadmium Orange Hue?

Cadmium Yellow Deep is still recognisably a yellow, sitting between mid-warm yellow and orange. Cadmium Orange Hue is fully orange, equidistant between red and yellow. Cadmium Yellow Deep gives warm, golden, amber-yellow; Cadmium Orange gives pure orange.
