Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium Azo Vermillion 75ml Heavy Body Acrylic Paint
Our everyday low price
Azo Vermillion is the bright red-orange of the Dimension Acrylic Premium range, a modern replacement for the traditional mercury-based Vermillion that delivers the same vivid, warm, orange-red character without toxicity. Based on PR254 (Pyrrole Red), it is fully opaque, high in tinting strength, and brilliantly saturated. It sits between Orange and Brilliant Red in the spectrum, with more warmth and orange character than a pure red but considerably more red than a pure orange. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it sculpts and holds every mark without slumping. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
Is Azo Vermillion a replacement for traditional Vermillion?
Yes. Traditional Vermillion is based on mercury sulphide (HgS), which is highly toxic. Azo Vermillion is a modern equivalent formulated with Pyrrole Red (PR254), which matches the warm, orange-red character and opacity of historical Vermillion without any toxicity concerns.
Can I use Dimension Acrylic Azo Vermillion with a palette knife?
Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.
How does Azo Vermillion differ from Permanent Red?
Azo Vermillion is warmer and more orange-leaning. Permanent Red is cooler and sits closer to a pure red without the orange shift. In a two-red palette, Azo Vermillion handles warm reds and orange directions while Permanent Red handles cool reds and maroon directions.
How long does Dimension Acrylic Azo Vermillion take to dry?
Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.
What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Azo Vermillion on?
Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
