Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium Violet 75ml Heavy Body Acrylic Paint
Our everyday low price
Violet in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range sits between Purple and Ultramarine Blue, delivering a deep, cool blue-violet that reads as shadow in twilight passages, the deep interior of iris and violet flowers, and the colour of distant mountains at dusk. Based on a combination of PV23 (Dioxazine Violet) and PB29 (Ultramarine Blue), it leans decidedly blue compared to Purple, and is most useful where a dark, cool, slightly blue shadow tone is needed rather than a warm purple. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds knife marks and impasto texture without slumping. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
What Makes This Colour Essential
Mixing with Violet
Violet's cool blue-leaning character makes it the natural choice for cool shadow passages and the deep, atmospheric tones of twilight and low-light landscape.
About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
What is the difference between Violet and Purple in Dimension Acrylic?
Purple is warmer and more centrally positioned in the purple spectrum, based primarily on PV23. Violet is cooler and blue-leaning, combining PV23 with Ultramarine Blue (PB29). For warm botanical purples and jewel tones, Purple is the better choice. For cool shadow passages and twilight colour, Violet is more useful.
Can I use Dimension Acrylic Violet with a palette knife?
Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.
Can Violet be used for landscape shadow passages?
Yes. Violet's cool blue-purple character reads convincingly as the shadow tone in atmospheric landscape, mountain passages, and low-light scenes. Lightened with Titanium White, it gives the misty lavender of a receding ridgeline.
How long does Dimension Acrylic Violet take to dry?
Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.
What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Violet on?
Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
