Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Purple 75ml
Rich, saturated purple: the heavy body colour for bold floral, jewel tones, and deep colour mixing.

Purple in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range is a rich, saturated purple based on PV23 (Dioxazine Violet), the most powerful and lightfast violet pigment in acrylic painting. Deep, resonant, and semi-transparent, it gives a jewel-like intensity in thick impasto application and a luminous, staining quality in glaze layers. It is the purple of dark irises, rich fabric, and shadow in warm interior light. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds palette knife ridges and sculptural texture without slumping despite the transparent pigment base. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
PV23 has exceptional tinting strength: a small amount goes a very long way in any mix. When mixing purple passages, add Purple to white or lighter colours in small amounts. It can overpower a mix quickly. For the deepest, richest purples, use it straight or mixed only with Violet.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium

Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

Is PV23 Dioxazine Violet lightfast?

Yes. PV23 is one of the most lightfast organic pigments in acrylic painting. Dimension Acrylic Premium Purple carries a Blue Wool Level 7+ rating, making it fully suitable for professional and archival work.

Can I use Dimension Acrylic Purple with a palette knife?

Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.

Why does Purple seem to overpower my mixes?

PV23 has very high tinting strength: even a small amount shifts any mix strongly toward purple. The solution is to add Purple to your other colour in very small increments rather than adding the other colour to a pile of Purple. Start with the lightest, highest-quantity colour and add Purple cautiously.

How long does Dimension Acrylic Purple take to dry?

Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.

What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Purple on?

Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
