Art Spectrum Studio Blend Oil Paint 40ml - Dusty Pink
Our everyday low price
Art Spectrum Studio Blend Oil Dusty Pink 40ml is a soft, muted, desaturated pink that sits between a warm grey and a pale rose: it is pink without being bright or sweet, the quality of antique fabric, dried flowers, early morning blush, and the most delicate areas of fair skin in indirect light. Pre-mixed and ready to use, Dusty Pink saves considerable time and palette space for artists who regularly work in portraiture, botanicals, and decorative subjects. Its semi-opaque quality means it can be used directly as a passage colour or thinned slightly for subtle, transparent washes over lighter grounds.
What Makes This Colour Essential
Mixing With Dusty Pink
Dusty Pink is a pre-mixed convenience colour that reaches tones which would otherwise require careful balancing of titanium white, a red or violet, and a small amount of grey or burnt umber. It can be used directly from the tube as a highlight tone in portrait work, or extended with Titanium White for an even lighter, softer blush. Adding a touch of Yellow Ochre or Naples Yellow to Dusty Pink moves it toward warmer, more peachy skin tones. A small addition of Burnt Sienna gives it more warmth and depth for mid-tone shadow areas of fair skin.
In botanical and floral work, Dusty Pink mixed with Titanium White gives the palest, most delicate petal highlights on roses and peonies. Mixed with a small amount of Dioxazine Purple it moves into a cool, dusty mauve for aged, antique-rose tones. Thinned with a lean medium and applied in washes over a white ground it gives the subtle, atmospheric blush tones of early morning sky and the hazy warmth of sunset cloud.

What is Dusty Pink useful for in oil painting?
Dusty Pink is a pre-mixed, muted pink that saves palette time when working in portraiture, botanical painting, or any subject requiring a soft, desaturated pink. It is particularly useful for delicate skin highlights on fair complexions, and for the muted pink tones of antique fabric, dried flowers, and decorative subjects.
Is Dusty Pink the same as flesh tint?
No. Dusty Pink is a muted rose-pink rather than a skin-warm flesh tone. Flesh tint colours typically have more yellow-beige warmth. Dusty Pink reads as a cool, grey-rose: it is the blush highlight of fair skin, not the mid-tone base. It complements flesh tint colours in portrait work.
Can Dusty Pink be used for Australian landscape?
Less typically than earth and landscape colours, but it can be useful for the subtle warm-pink tones in early morning Australian sky above the horizon, and for the soft blush of certain flowering eucalyptus blossoms and wildflower subjects.
Is Art Spectrum Studio Blend Oil the same as Art Prism?
Yes. Art Spectrum Studio Blend Oil is the direct successor to the Art Prism range with new packaging and artwork only. The formula, pigments, and linseed oil base are unchanged.
Is Dusty Pink lightfast?
Yes. Art Spectrum Studio Blend Dusty Pink carries an ASTM I lightfastness rating, making it suitable for professional fine art work.
