Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Pearl Purple 75ml
Rich pearlescent purple: iridescent violet shimmer for botanical depth, jewel tones, and decorative work.

Pearl Purple is the pearlescent purple in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range, combining a rich violet-purple pigment with pearlescent mica to deliver the shimmering, iridescent quality of dark amethyst, purple-lustre ceramics, and rich fabric in strong light. The pearlescent mica creates a multi-directional shimmer that shifts between deep purple and a more luminous, bright violet depending on the viewing angle. Semi-opaque, it is most effective as a final accent layer over a dry dark purple passage. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds knife marks and sculptural texture without slumping. Dries to a pearlescent gloss finish. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Pearl Purple is most dramatic applied over a dry layer of Purple or Violet as a final highlight layer. The deep purple base provides the visual weight and the pearl mica gives the jewel-quality shimmer. Use it for amethyst and dark iris highlights, or for contemporary abstract passages where rich iridescent purple is needed.

What Makes This Colour Essential

Consistency
Ultra-Thick Heavy Body
Pearl Purple delivers the full ultra-thick Dimension Acrylic Premium formula. Palette knife marks and impasto texture hold in permanently sculptural form.
Shimmer
Amethyst-Quality Iridescent Purple
The pearlescent mica combined with the deep violet-purple pigment creates the shimmer of amethyst: a rich, jewel-quality iridescence that shifts between deep purple and luminous violet.
Application
Best as a Final Jewel Highlight
Pearl Purple's pearlescent effect is fullest when applied over a dry dark purple base. The depth of the underlayer interacts with the shimmer for maximum jewel quality.
Lightfastness
Blue Wool Level 6+
Dimension Acrylic Premium metallic and pearl colours carry a Blue Wool Level 6+ lightfast rating. The metallic sheen and colour remain stable under normal indoor display and gallery conditions.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium

Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

Is Pearl Purple useful for painting irises and lavender?

Yes. Applied as a highlight layer over Purple or Violet, Pearl Purple adds the shimmering, reflective quality of irises in strong light. For lavender, use Pearl Purple over a dry Mauve base to capture the soft iridescence of lavender flowers.

Can I use Dimension Acrylic Pearl Purple with a palette knife?

Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.

Does Pearl Purple look different under gallery lighting than under natural light?

Yes. Pearlescent effects are more pronounced under directional lighting (such as spotlights in a gallery) than under diffused natural light. Under gallery lighting, the shimmer becomes multi-directional and very visible. Under flat lighting, Pearl Purple reads as a rich, slightly lustrous purple.

How long does Dimension Acrylic Pearl Purple take to dry?

Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.

What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Pearl Purple on?

Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
