Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium Medium Yellow 75ml Heavy Body Acrylic Paint
Our everyday low price
Medium Yellow sits in the centre of the yellow spectrum in the Dimension Acrylic Premium range, occupying the warm, balanced middle ground between the cool acidity of Lemon Yellow and the deep warmth of Deep Yellow. Based on PY74 (Arylide Yellow), it is bright, clear, and semi-opaque, making it the all-purpose yellow of the range: reliable for mixing both orange and green families, suitable as a warm primary in limited palettes, and useful wherever a clean, unfussy mid-yellow is needed. In the ultra-thick Dimension Acrylic Premium formula, it holds knife peaks and brushstroke texture without slumping or levelling. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.

About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
Is Medium Yellow a good primary yellow for a limited palette?
Yes. Medium Yellow's balanced warm-centre position in the yellow spectrum makes it the most flexible single yellow for general use. It produces both clean greens (with blue) and acceptable oranges (with red). For a full three-primary palette, pair it with Phthalo Blue or Ultramarine Blue and Permanent Red or Azo Vermillion.
Can I use Dimension Acrylic Medium Yellow with a palette knife?
Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.
How does Medium Yellow compare to Deep Yellow?
Medium Yellow is brighter and sits more centrally in the yellow spectrum. Deep Yellow is darker, warmer, and more orange-leaning. For the most vivid, saturated oranges, Deep Yellow is the better choice. For general yellow and green mixing, Medium Yellow is more versatile.
How long does Dimension Acrylic Medium Yellow take to dry?
Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.
What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Medium Yellow on?
Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
