How to Use Your Kent Urban Paint Markers

  1. Shake it. Cap on, shake well until the mixing ball rattles freely.
  2. Prime the nib. On scrap card, press the wide nib down gently a few times until the paint soaks right across the tip.
  3. Test first. Do a swipe on scrap, or on a hidden spot of the surface, to check the flow and colour.
  4. Keep the nib flat. Hold the marker so the whole wide edge touches the surface, and pull it in smooth, overlapping strokes.
  5. Let it dry, then layer. Water based acrylic dries fast. Wait until it is touch dry before a second coat or another colour.
  6. Store flat. Click the cap on firmly and store the marker flat.

Tips for Your Kent Urban 10mm Set

Shake every marker before you start and prime each one on scrap card until the paint soaks right across the wide nib. Wide nibs hold more paint, so give them a moment to fill and never pump them hard.

The 10mm is a coverage tool. Fill your big shapes first, then finish with fine lines from the 1mm Super Fine or 3mm Fine Kent Urban markers once the first layer is dry.

Project idea: paint a pastel gradient background on a canvas using four colours from the set side by side, then put your piece over the top once dry.

More 10mm sets: 10mm Classic Pk 8, 10mm Fluoro Pk 4, 10mm Metallic Pk 4. Shop single colours in the Kent Urban 10mm Wide range, or browse every size in the Kent Urban acrylic paint marker range.

Questions About the Kent Urban 10mm Pastel Pk 8

Are the Kent Urban 10mm Pastels opaque?

Yes. They are acrylic paint markers, so the pastels cover dark surfaces rather than soaking in. For the softest, most even colour, let the first coat dry and add a second.

What is a 10mm paint marker best for?

Coverage. A 10mm Wide nib is for letter fills, block letters, chunky outlines, characters and colouring whole panels of a skate deck, a canvas or a pair of sneakers. It does in one stroke what a 3mm marker needs ten for, so your colour stays flat and even instead of stripy.

How do I start a new Kent Urban 10mm marker?

Shake it well with the cap on until you hear the mixing ball rattle. Then hold it nib down on scrap paper or cardboard and press the wide nib gently a few times until the paint soaks right across it. A wide nib holds more paint, so give it a little more time to fill than a fine marker, and do not pump it hard.

Can I use Kent Urban paint markers outdoors?

Yes. The ink is UV resistant and waterproof once dry, and Kent rates the range for indoor and outdoor use. For anything that lives outside, like a painted deck, a helmet or a piece on a legal wall, a clear outdoor varnish over the top keeps it fresh for longer.

Will the 10mm cover dark surfaces?

Yes. The acrylic paint ink is opaque, so it sits on top of black card, dark wood, painted walls and kraft paper instead of sinking in. Light colours on very dark backgrounds may need a second coat once the first is dry for full, solid colour.

How do I get even coverage with a wide paint marker?

Work in one direction with steady, overlapping strokes, keeping the nib flat to the surface. Let the first coat dry, then add a second coat across the first direction if you want it solid. Going back over wet paint drags it and leaves streaks.

Can I use Kent Urban 10mm markers on glass?

Yes. They work on glass, mirrors, bottles and clear acrylic sheet. While the paint is wet it wipes away; once it is fully dry it is permanent, so test on a small corner first and plan your layout before you start.
