How to Use Your Kent Urban Paint Marker

  1. Shake it. Cap on, shake well until the mixing ball rattles freely.
  2. Prime the nib. On scrap card, press the wide nib down gently a few times until the paint soaks right across the tip.
  3. Test first. Do a swipe on scrap, or on a hidden spot of the surface, to check the flow and colour.
  4. Keep the nib flat. Hold the marker so the whole wide edge touches the surface, and pull it in smooth, overlapping strokes.
  5. Let it dry, then layer. Water based acrylic dries fast. Wait until it is touch dry before a second coat or another colour.
  6. Store flat. Click the cap on firmly and store the marker flat.

Getting the Most From a Wide Nib

Treat a 10mm nib like a small brush. Keep the whole edge flat on the surface and pull long, even strokes that slightly overlap. Let the first coat dry before adding a second, rather than scrubbing back and forth over wet paint.

Plan big pieces lightly in pencil first, fill the large areas with the 10mm, then come back once dry with a fine nib for outlines, shadows and highlights.

Project idea: paint a slime monster character on a deck, filling the body with the 10mm Green, then add eyes and teeth with a 1mm White and Black.

Need the same colour for detail? Grab the 1mm Green, 3mm Green or 6mm Green. See every colour in the Kent Urban 10mm Wide paint markers, or browse the full Kent Urban acrylic paint marker range.

Questions About the Kent Urban 10mm Green

Can I mix the Kent Urban 10mm Green with other colours?

Yes. While the ink is wet you can blend it on the surface with neighbouring colours, or layer Yellow or White over dry Green to lighten and highlight. Kent Urban ink is designed so colours can be mixed for custom shades.

What is a 10mm paint marker best for?

Coverage. A 10mm Wide nib is for letter fills, block letters, chunky outlines, characters and colouring whole panels of a skate deck, a canvas or a pair of sneakers. It does in one stroke what a 3mm marker needs ten for, so your colour stays flat and even instead of stripy.

How do I start a new Kent Urban 10mm marker?

Shake it well with the cap on until you hear the mixing ball rattle. Then hold it nib down on scrap paper or cardboard and press the wide nib gently a few times until the paint soaks right across it. A wide nib holds more paint, so give it a little more time to fill than a fine marker, and do not pump it hard.

Can I use Kent Urban paint markers outdoors?

Yes. The ink is UV resistant and waterproof once dry, and Kent rates the range for indoor and outdoor use. For anything that lives outside, like a painted deck, a helmet or a piece on a legal wall, a clear outdoor varnish over the top keeps it fresh for longer.

Can I use Kent Urban 10mm markers on glass?

Yes. They work on glass, mirrors, bottles and clear acrylic sheet. While the paint is wet it wipes away; once it is fully dry it is permanent, so test on a small corner first and plan your layout before you start.

Can I use Kent Urban paint markers on sneakers?

Yes. Kent lists fabric among the surfaces the range works on, and the acrylic ink grips well on canvas sneakers. Clean the area first, build the colour in light layers, let each layer dry fully, and finish with a clear sealer so your design survives scuffs and wear.

Do I need to seal Kent Urban paint marker art?

Not always. On paper and canvas the dry ink is permanent on its own. On things that get handled, worn or left outside, like skate decks, shoes, jackets and bags, a clear sealer or varnish adds a tough top layer that protects the colour from scuffs.

Where can I buy Kent Urban paint markers in Australia?

We ship fast Australia wide, and our team are artists who use these products themselves, so ask us anything. Kent Urban Green also comes in the 1mm, 3mm and 6mm sizes here.
