Skies, shadows, distant hills and deep water. The Art Spectrum Soft Round Pastel Six Pack in Blues & Violets gives you six related, artist quality soft pastels across the cool end of the spectrum, from full strength Ultramarine Blue to soft, very tinted Indigo.

Art Spectrum designed its six packs as ready made colour families. There are 14 of them, with no colour repeated between sets, so you can build a complete studio range one small step at a time.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Use violet in your shadows, not black. A stroke of Flinders Blue Violet under a shadow, then a light pass of the local colour on top, makes shadows glow instead of going dead. It works on skin, foliage and white cloth alike.

Notice the two Flinders Blue Violets? One is pure pigment (P) and one is very tinted (V). That built in value step is what makes Art Spectrum six packs so useful: you can model a sky from deep to pale without mixing on the paper.

Each stick is hand made from lightfast pigments with maximum pigment and minimal binder, then triple milled for a soft, velvety stroke. Art Spectrum makes its pastels itself in Australia, and describes the brand as 100% Australian made.

Why We Love This Six Pack

  • Ready made colour harmony. Six blues and violets chosen to work together.
  • Value steps included. Pure, tinted and very tinted versions for easy shading.
  • Jacaranda. An Aussie favourite for purple haze and summer streets.
  • Low commitment. Try Art Spectrum pastels without buying a big box.

How We Use Blues and Violets

Block in the sky with the side of the stick, darkest at the top, lightest near the horizon. Blend lightly with a finger or leave the strokes showing for energy. Blue grounds and greys both suit these colours, so try them on our Art Spectrum Pastel Pad A4 Greys.

Hold back your palest tint for the final layer, because soft pastel sits best on top.
