Our everyday low price
Twenty four Neoart colours is where pastel painting gets properly exciting. Enough warm and cool colours to paint landscapes, florals and still life without stopping to mix, in Caran d'Ache's newest professional pastel. Satiny, powder free, permanent and certified lightfast, so the work you make today still glows in a hundred years.
What You Get in the Box of 24
Half of the 24 colours are single pigment, so blends stay bright instead of muddy. You get warm and cool versions of key colours, plus earths and darks, for finished work across any subject.
Every stick is professional Neoart: 10 x 68mm, octagonal, wax and oil based, certified to ASTM D-6901 and ASTM D-4236.
The Caran d'Ache Difference: Swiss Made Since 1915
Caran d'Ache has made drawing tools in its own Geneva workshops since 1915, and Neoart is made there too, under the Swiss Made label. Still family owned, with Carole Hübscher leading as the fourth generation, Caran d'Ache controls every stage from pigment to finished stick. That is why a Neoart pastel you buy next year will behave exactly like the one you buy today.
Neoart is the newest member of the 6901 family, the same professional line as Luminance 6901 coloured pencils, and it shares the same obsession with permanence. Caran d'Ache tested the colours for three months in the Arizona desert and under 400 hours of UV light, and Neoart became the first pastel of its type made to the ASTM D-6901 lightfastness standard. The company that launched the world's first watercolour pencil in 1931 has done it again.
Why Artists Are Switching to Neoart
- Certified lightfast. The first pastel of its type made to ASTM D-6901. Every colour LFI or LFII.
- Pure, clean colour. 44 pigments across 48 colours, most of them single or two pigment formulas, so blends stay bright.
- No dust, no fixative. Wax and oil based, satiny and powder free.
- Works on more than paper. Paper, cardboard, canvas, glass and wood.
- Swiss made. Made in Caran d'Ache's own Geneva workshops.
Getting the Most Out of Neoart
Use the flat faces for broad, even coverage and the edges for crisp lines. Build light to dark, then blend with a fingertip or stump where you want soft transitions.
Leave some strokes unblended for energy. Neoart's satiny finish makes expressive marks look intentional and rich.
Combine Neoart with Luminance 6901 coloured pencils for detail on top of pastel colour fields. They share the same lightfastness standard, so the whole piece is archival.

Questions About the Caran d'Ache Neoart 6901 Box of 24
What is in the Neoart Box of 24?
Twenty four Neoart 6901 permanent pastels, twelve of them single pigment colours. Sixteen are rated LFI and eight LFII under ASTM D-6901. The octagonal sticks are 10mm across and 68mm long.
How lightfast is Neoart?
Very. Neoart is made to ASTM D-6901 and every colour is rated LFI or LFII. Across the full range of 48, 34 colours are LFI, the top rating, and 14 are LFII. Caran d'Ache rates it for colour that stays bright for up to 100 years, after testing in the Arizona desert and under intense UV.
Why do single pigment colours matter?
A colour made from one pigment mixes cleaner and stays brighter when you layer or blend it with others. Around 75 percent of Neoart shades are made with one or two pigments, which is why the colours stay vivid instead of turning muddy when you blend.
How do you blend Neoart pastels?
Layer colours and blend with a fingertip, a paper stump or a colour shaper. Because Neoart is wax and oil based it moves and softens with pressure, so you can blend smoothly or leave visible, expressive strokes. Sgraffito, scratching through layers, works well too.
What surfaces can Neoart be used on?
Caran d'Ache recommends paper, cardboard, canvas, glass and wood. Pastel and mixed media papers with some tooth hold the most layers. On canvas or board it works beautifully for expressive underlayers and texture.
Why is Neoart octagonal?
The eight sided shape gives you a comfortable, secure grip and stops the stick rolling off your table. The edges also give you a crisp line, while the flat faces lay down broad colour.
Why is Caran d'Ache considered such high quality?
Because they still make it themselves. Caran d'Ache has made drawing tools in its own Geneva workshops since 1915, is still family owned, and controls everything from pigment to finished stick. Neoart is made to the ASTM D-6901 lightfastness standard and certified to ASTM D-4236, which is why professional artists trust it for work they want to last.
