How We Use Extra Soft Pastels

Finish your painting with regular soft pastels first. Then, holding the stick lightly near its end, touch the extra soft onto the brightest points: the edge of a cloud, the shine on a nose, sun on water. Do not blend, because the fresh, broken stroke is what makes highlights sparkle.

If you spray fixative, do it before the extra soft layer, so the final highlights stay bright and untouched.
