Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium Yellow Ochre 75ml Heavy Body Acrylic Paint
Our everyday low price
Yellow Ochre is one of the oldest pigments used by humans and one of the most essential colours in any acrylic palette. In the Dimension Acrylic Premium range, it is based on PY43 (Natural Yellow Iron Oxide), delivering a warm, muted, fully opaque golden yellow that reads as the colour of sunlit sandstone, wheat fields, aged parchment, and the most important mixing earth in any landscape or portrait palette. Where Raw Sienna is transparent and slightly more orange, Yellow Ochre is opaque and cleanly golden, making it the go-to earth yellow for any passage that needs coverage and warmth. In the ultra-thick heavy body formula, it holds knife marks and impasto texture without slumping. Dries to a gloss finish with a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
What Makes This Colour Essential
Mixing with Yellow Ochre
Yellow Ochre is the most versatile earth colour in any palette. Nearly every warm earth tone, flesh passage, and natural dark passes through Yellow Ochre in some ratio.
About Mont Marte Dimension Acrylic Premium
Founded in Australia in 2002, Mont Marte creates high-quality fine art materials for students, hobbyists, and professional artists worldwide. Dimension Acrylic Premium is their flagship heavy body range: an ultra-thick, high-viscosity acrylic formulated for impasto work, palette knife painting, and any technique that demands a paint that holds its shape. With a Blue Wool Level 7+ lightfast rating (equivalent to ASTM I), the 48-colour range is built for serious, permanent work. Available in 75ml tubes and 250ml pots.
Why is Yellow Ochre considered essential in a portrait palette?
Yellow Ochre is the most naturalistic warm yellow for skin tones. It mixes convincingly as the base for warm flesh lights (with Titanium White), warm mid-tones (with Burnt Sienna), and the complementary dark for skin shadows (with Ultramarine Blue). Very few colours in any range are as broadly useful across portrait work.
Can I use Dimension Acrylic Yellow Ochre with a palette knife?
Yes. Palette knife application is one of the primary uses for Dimension Acrylic Premium. The ultra-thick formula sits firm on the knife, deposits a clean hard-edged layer on the surface, and holds the shape of each mark as it dries without slumping. Apply straight from the tube for maximum texture and sharp ridges.
Can Yellow Ochre replace Lemon Yellow or Medium Yellow in a limited palette?
No. Yellow Ochre's muted, earthy character makes it unsuitable for vivid yellow passages, mixing clean greens, or colour work that requires a bright yellow. It is the correct choice wherever warmth and naturalism matter more than saturation.
How long does Dimension Acrylic Yellow Ochre take to dry?
Thin applications dry in 20-30 minutes. Heavy impasto builds applied with a palette knife can take 1-2 hours to dry fully. Drying time extends in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply a second thick layer over the first until the lower layer has dried completely to the touch.
What surfaces can I use Dimension Acrylic Yellow Ochre on?
Canvas, board, wood, air-dry clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, leather, and most rigid plastics. For best adhesion on non-porous or slick surfaces, apply a coat of gesso or acrylic primer first. Dimension Acrylic Premium is compatible with all Mont Marte acrylic mediums, gels, and impasto pastes.
