Black is the colour every kit runs out of first. The bullet end gives you a steady everyday line for outlines and sketches, and the chisel end turns the same marker into a handstyle tool.

It is acrylic paint, not dye ink, so it stays solid black on wood, plastic, canvas and over dry paint instead of fading to grey.

How to Use Your Kent Urban Paint Marker

  1. Shake it. Cap on, shake well until the mixing ball rattles freely.
  2. Prime the nib. On scrap paper, press the nib down gently a few times until the paint flows right to the tip. Do not pump it hard.
  3. Pick your end. Bullet for even lines and fills, chisel for handstyles and thick and thin strokes. The nib is reversible, so swap ends whenever you need to.
  4. Test first. Do a few strokes on scrap to check the flow and colour.
  5. Let it dry, then layer. Water based acrylic dries fast. Wait until it is touch dry before an outline, a shine or another colour.
  6. Store flat. Click the cap on firmly and store the marker flat.

Getting the Most From a 3mm Fine Nib

The 3mm is the everyday size. Use the bullet end for outlines, sketches and filling small letters, and flip to the chisel end when you want handstyle strokes with real thick and thin.

For bigger pieces, fill the large areas with a 6mm Medium first, let it dry, then come back with the 3mm for outlines, shadows and shines.

Project idea: fill one blackbook page a day with your tag in 3mm Black, bullet end one day, chisel end the next. A month in, your handstyle will look completely different.

Need the same colour in a bolder line? Grab the 6mm Medium Black. See every colour in the Kent Urban 3mm Fine paint markers, or browse the full Kent Urban acrylic paint marker range.

Questions About the Kent Urban 3mm Black

Is the Kent Urban 3mm Black good for outlining?

Yes, it is the everyday outline marker. The bullet end gives a line of roughly 0.8mm to 1.8mm depending on pressure, which suits blackbook pieces, characters and sneaker details. Let the colour underneath dry first so the black stays clean.

How do I start a new Kent Urban paint marker?

Shake it well with the cap on until you hear the mixing ball rattle. Then hold it nib down on scrap paper and press the nib gently a few times until the paint flows right to the tip. Do not pump it hard, or it floods. If it ever runs dry mid piece, cap it, shake it and prime it again.

Will Kent Urban paint markers cover black paper?

Yes. The acrylic paint ink is opaque, so it sits on top of black card and dark surfaces instead of soaking in like dye ink. Light colours on very dark backgrounds may need a second coat once the first is dry for full, solid colour.

Do I need to seal Kent Urban paint marker art?

Not on paper or in a blackbook, where the dry ink is permanent on its own. On things that get handled, worn or left outside, like skate decks, sneakers, helmets and jackets, a clear sealer or varnish adds a tough top layer that protects your work from scuffs.

How should I store Kent Urban paint markers?

Flat, with the caps clicked on firmly. Flat storage keeps the paint spread evenly through the marker so it is ready to go, and a tight cap stops the nib drying out between sessions.

Can I layer and blend Kent Urban colours?

Yes. While the paint is still wet you can blend neighbouring colours on the surface for fades. Once it is touch dry you can layer over it with another colour, an outline or a shine without it lifting.

How do I swap the Kent Urban nib from bullet to chisel?

The nib is reversible, with a bullet tip on one end and a chisel on the other. Cap the marker and give it a shake first, then gently pull the nib out, turn it around and push it back in firmly. Clean fingers or a pair of tweezers make it easy. Prime it on scrap paper before you start again.
