Tips for Using Blackwattle White Earthenware Paper Clay

• Great for handbuilding: This paper clay is particularly popular for handbuilding and can also be used successfully on the wheel.

• Repair cracks with paper clay slip: One of the major advantages of paper clay is its ability to repair cracks and broken sections. Make a slurry from the same paper clay and water, then apply it to the damaged area.

• Take advantage of its dry strength: The cellulose fibres give the clay increased plasticity and dry strength, making it useful for handbuilt work.

• Dry thoroughly before firing: Allow your work to become completely dry before placing it in the kiln. Thicker or unevenly constructed pieces should be dried particularly carefully.

• Apply glazes after bisque firing: Apply underglazes and glazes after the first/bisque firing.

• Follow the recommended firing range: Recommended bisque firing is 1050°C, with a glaze firing range of 1080–1180°C.

• For air-drying projects: This paper clay can also be air-dried. Once completely dry, pieces can be painted with acrylic paints.
