Blackwattle BWF Stoneware Clay 10kg

Blackwattle BWF Stoneware Clay is an excellent throwing clay with high plasticity, strong joining properties and good compression turning. It is particularly well suited to functional pottery and forms that require multiple pieces to be joined, such as mugs, teapots, handles and spouts.

BWF fires to a warm brown speckled colour in reduction (gas) and a buff colour in oxidation (electric). It is also suitable for wood firing at stoneware temperatures.

Although BWF can be fired at midfire temperatures, it requires stoneware firing temperatures to achieve vitrification.

*this clay has been passed through a screen with 80 openings per linear inch. A higher mesh number means finer particles; a lower number means coarser particles, which means the clay has a relatively fine, consistent particle size. This contributes to a smooth working texture while still retaining the characteristics of a stoneware body.

Firing Information:

• Recommended bisque firing: 1000°C

• Recommended glaze firing: 1220–1260°C

• Shrinkage: 7% bisque, 7% earthenware, 11% midfire, 13% stoneware

• Stoneware firing is required for vitrification
