The biggest of our AlumaComp trio. The Art Spectrum AlumaComp Aluminium Panel 9 x 12" is a 100% archival aluminium painting and mounting panel, 4mm thick, with a brushed side and a polished side.

9 x 12 inches gives you room for a proper landscape or a half length portrait, while staying light enough to carry into the field all day.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Tone it for the light you are chasing. Outdoors, prime with a mid grey or warm toned ground. It cuts glare from the sun on a bright surface and helps you judge values accurately, which is half the battle in plein air painting.

Strength
Holds Its Shape
Maintains its structural integrity.

At this size, rigidity really matters. A thin board can flex on a windy hillside, but AlumaComp, which Art Spectrum describes as extremely rigid, stays flat and steady on the easel.

Its 3 to 4 proportion is a natural landscape shape, and stood upright it suits figures, trees and tall subjects.

Why We Love AlumaComp 9 x 12"

  • Room to paint. Our largest AlumaComp size.
  • Steady outdoors. Extremely rigid, so it will not flex in the wind.
  • Built to last. 100% archival aluminium.
  • Natural proportions. A classic 3 to 4 rectangle.

How We Use It

Prime the panel in thin coats and allow it to cure fully. Take it out with a pochade box or a field easel from our easels range and work in big, simple shapes.

Paint with Art Spectrum oils or acrylic paints, and prepare it with our gesso and primers.
