The colour: Black

Black is the default for a reason. It does not date, it does not clash with anything you carry it with, and it hides the scuffs that any notebook picks up after a few months in a bag.

What 7mm ruling actually gives you

Line spacing is the thing nobody checks and everybody notices later. At 7mm there is enough clearance that the tails of one line do not tangle with the tops of the next, so a page of fast handwriting still reads back cleanly a month later.

Ruled is the straightforward choice for prose. If most of what goes in the book will be sentences, lines keep it tidy without you having to think about it. At 9 x 14cm you get about twenty words to a line, which is the part people forget to think about until they are living with the book.

How wide is the ruling?

Seven millimetres between lines, which is the classic wide-ish rule. Comfortable for adult handwriting, and enough clearance for a broad nib or a brush pen without letters from neighbouring lines tangling.

Is there a margin printed on the page?

No printed margin, just clean full-width ruling edge to edge. If you want a margin you rule your own, which is the flexible way round.

Is it big enough to be useful?

For capture, yes. It is built for the thought you have standing up, on a platform or in a queue. If you want to sit and write at length, the 13 x 21cm is the better size.

Are the corners rounded?

Yes, on both the cover and the block. It is the detail that decides whether a notebook still looks tidy after three months of being pushed in and out of a bag, because square corners are the ones that fray.

Can I use both sides of every page?

That is the point of the 140gsm stock. With gel pens, fineliners, ballpoints and most fountain pens you will see minimal show through and no bleed, so you get the full 160 sides rather than half of them.
