Matisse Structure Australian Daintree Fundamental Set 5x75ml
Our everyday low price
130 million years of green. The Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland is the world's oldest surviving tropical rainforest, predating the Amazon by tens of millions of years. Its colour is extraordinary: layers of green from near-black forest floor shadow to incandescent yellow-green canopy light, cut through with the cool blue-grey of eucalyptus and the blue of sky and distant Coral Sea. The Matisse Structure Australian Daintree Fundamental Set distils that world into five focused colours: Southern Ocean Blue, Australian Blue Gum, Australian Sap Green, Australian Olive Green, Australian Yellow Green. Five 75ml tubes. No mediums. A complete rainforest palette. Made by Derivan in Sydney.
What Makes This Set Different
What's in the Set
| Colour | Size |
| Southern Ocean Blue | 75ml |
| Australian Blue Gum | 75ml |
| Australian Sap Green | 75ml |
| Australian Olive Green | 75ml |
| Australian Yellow Green | 75ml |
The logic of these five colours becomes clear the moment you start painting. Australian Olive Green is the deep shadow under closed canopy: dense, complex, slightly warm. Australian Sap Green is your mid-tone foliage, the colour of full leaves in open jungle light. Australian Yellow Green is sunlight hitting the canopy from above, vivid and direct. Australian Blue Gum brings the characteristic silver-blue of eucalyptus leaves into the palette, a distinctly Australian note that separates this palette from any generic tropical green range. Southern Ocean Blue adds sky, distant headland, and the blue of the Coral Sea visible through the treeline where the Daintree meets the coast. Together they describe a complete ecosystem in five tubes.
Why Matisse Structure is in Serious Australian Studios
- Formulated for Australian colour. The Matisse Australian Colours range names specific Australian environments and matches them. These greens are derived from observation of Australian vegetation, not adapted from Northern Hemisphere palettes.
- Structure formula for textured foliage work. Heavy body consistency holds brushmarks and impasto leaf textures. Build up layers of canopy without losing your mark quality.
- Consistent from batch to batch. Your palette does not shift between orders. The greens you mix today will be reproducible next month.
- Pairs with the full Matisse medium range. MM1 through MM7 are all compatible. Add Impasto Medium to build volume, or Gel Medium to create transparent glazed leaf layers.

What colours are in the Matisse Structure Australian Daintree Fundamental Set?
The set contains five 75ml tubes of Matisse Structure heavy body acrylic: Southern Ocean Blue, Australian Blue Gum, Australian Sap Green, Australian Olive Green, and Australian Yellow Green. There are no mediums included in the Fundamental Set format. All five colours are inspired by the Daintree Rainforest of Far North Queensland.
Does the Daintree Fundamental Set include mediums?
No. The Fundamental Set format is five colours only, with no mediums included. If you want to work with impasto texture, add a tube of MM2 Impasto Medium separately. For glazing and transparent layers, MM4 Gel Medium works well with all five colours in this set. The classic 10-piece Matisse sets (such as the Australian Colours Set, Landscape Set, and Seascape Set) include two mediums, but the Fundamental Sets are pure-colour focused.
How does the Daintree Set differ from the Australian Colours Set?
The Australian Colours Set (10 x 75ml) is a broad survey palette covering the full range of Australian landscape colour: earth tones, sky blues, greens, and reds for painting across different Australian environments. The Daintree Fundamental Set is a focused five-colour palette built specifically around tropical rainforest: all greens and blue-greens, no earth tones, no reds. It is designed for artists who paint specifically in the tropical north, or who want to explore limited-palette rainforest studies. The Daintree Set is also format-different: five colours with no mediums, versus eight colours plus two mediums in the classic sets.
Can I paint complete rainforest scenes with just these five colours?
Yes, for rainforest-focused work these five colours are surprisingly complete. The three greens cover shadow, mid-tone, and highlight across canopy and undergrowth. Australian Blue Gum adds the cool grey-blue note of eucalyptus. Southern Ocean Blue handles sky passages, waterways, and distant coastal haze. For dark shadows without using black, mix Australian Olive Green with Australian Blue Gum. The main addition many artists reach for is Titanium White for sky lightening and misty atmosphere in the background distance.
