Solarfast Starter Kit
Jacquard Solarfast Sun Printing Starter Kit
Make photographic prints on fabric and paper using nothing but sunshine.

Paint on the dye, lay down a negative, a leaf or a bit of lace, and put it in the sun. A few minutes later the colour develops right before your eyes. Solarfast turns sunshine into prints on T-shirts, tote bags, canvas and paper, with no darkroom and no special equipment.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Pick a bright day and work fast once the dye is on. Solarfast only develops in UV light, so you can paint it indoors in normal light, then take it out into the sun when your design is ready.

The fabric and dye specialists.

Solarfast is a dye that develops in sunlight. Anything that blocks the sun, like a film negative, a feather or a cut paper shape, leaves a pale print while the rest of the fabric develops into rich colour. Wash it with Solarfast Wash and the print is permanent.

The kit has everything to start except the fabric or paper itself: dyes, wash, film, sponges, gloves, pins and a backerboard to hold your work flat.

How Sun Printing Works

1. Apply Sponge Solarfast onto natural fabric or paper.
2. Cover Lay a film negative, objects or cut shapes on top.
3. Expose Put it in direct sun until the colour develops.
4. Wash Wash with Solarfast Wash to fix the print.

Getting Started

Start with the cotton test fabric so you learn how long your sun takes to develop the colour. Then move on to a T-shirt or tote. Natural fibres like cotton and linen take the dye best.
