Look. If you paint with acrylics and you have not tried GOLDEN Heavy Body yet, this is your sign and we are not sorry for the intervention. Hansa Yellow Opaque (S4) is part of the range that put GOLDEN on the map in 1980, and it genuinely keeps getting better. A 59ml tube of thick, richly pigmented acrylic with a buttery, knife-holds-its-peak consistency. The kind of paint that makes your mark-making feel like it actually counts for something.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
The word "opaque" in the name does the heavy lifting here. This yellow covers. Use it straight for bold impasto highlights, or work it over a dark ground without the usual yellowy disappointment. If you have ever fought with a transparent yellow trying to do something it simply was not made for, this solves that problem.

Hansa Yellow Opaque is a single-pigment colour (PY3). That matters more than most people realise. Single-pigment paints mix cleaner, stay truer, and give you far more predictable results on the palette. No hidden extras, no surprises.

Hansa Yellow Opaque is fully opaque. What you put down, stays down. A yellow that actually covers — which is rarer than it should be. That combination of warm hue and genuine opacity makes it invaluable on any palette.

Lightfastness is rated ASTM II — Very Good. Your work will hold its colour for 50+ years under normal indoor display conditions. The kind of promise you can make to buyers.

Why GOLDEN Heavy Body is in Serious Studios

  • No fillers. No extenders. No dyes. Pure pigment in 100% acrylic emulsion. That is it.
  • Buttery consistency that holds its peak. Brushstrokes stay. Palette knife marks peak and stay peaked. No overnight slumping.
  • Batch-to-batch colour consistency. Every production run is matched. Your palette does not change on you between orders.
  • Permanent and waterproof once dry. A flexible, archival film that will not crack, yellow, or reactivate with water.
  • Fully intermixable with all GOLDEN mediums, gels, and pastes. No weird reactions, no surprises. Also plays beautifully with other professional acrylic brands.
  • Series 4 pricing — based on pigment cost and rarity, not quality. Every series is made to the same uncompromising standard.

About Series Pricing

GOLDEN uses a Series 1 through 9 pricing system based purely on pigment cost and rarity. Series 1 uses the most accessible pigments. Series 9 uses the expensive, rare ones. What it does not mean is that Series 1 is lesser quality than Series 9. Every single series is made to exactly the same uncompromising standard. Hansa Yellow Opaque is a Series 4 colour, priced at $29.95 per 59ml tube.

Getting the Most Out of This Tube

Straight from the tube is where Heavy Body shines. Impasto, texture, bold mark-making, palette knife work. This is exactly what it was designed for.

Thin with water up to around 25% for smoother applications. Beyond that, reach for GOLDEN Fluid Medium or Glazing Liquid — heavy dilution with water alone can compromise the binder over time.

Need more working time? GOLDEN OPEN Medium or a touch of Retarder slows drying significantly. Wet blending, soft edges, all the things oil painters get to brag about — all possible.

Questions About GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque

Is GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque a professional-grade acrylic?

Yes, full stop. No student grade, no hidden shortcuts. GOLDEN Heavy Body is pure pigment in 100% acrylic emulsion with no fillers or extenders of any kind. Not by us, by them. Every batch is tested for colour consistency and every claim on the label is backed by real data.

What pigment is used in GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque?

Hansa Yellow Opaque is a single-pigment colour (PY3). That matters more than most people realise. Single-pigment paints mix cleaner, stay truer, and give you far more predictable results on the palette. No hidden extras, no surprises.

Is GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque transparent or opaque?

Hansa Yellow Opaque is fully opaque. What you put down, stays down. A yellow that covers dark grounds without the usual fight — which is rarer than it should be, and exactly what the name promises.

Can I use GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque with other brands of acrylic paint?

Yes. GOLDEN Heavy Body plays well with other professional acrylic paints. The binder chemistry is compatible with standard acrylic formulations. Just keep an eye on consistency — Heavy Body is a thick paint, so if you are mixing brands you may need to adjust with mediums. Hansa Yellow Opaque in particular behaves beautifully as a mixing partner thanks to its high tinting strength.

What is the shelf life of GOLDEN Hansa Yellow Opaque once opened?

Keep the cap clean and sealed after use and it will last for years. Heavy Body acrylic does not dry in the tube — the only risk is if air gets in and it starts to skin at the opening. Wipe the cap threads clean after each session and you will get long, reliable life from every tube.
