How to create a Mermaid Makeup look with Face Paint

Looking for a kid friendly last-minute Halloween look for spooky season?

We asked our resident professional makeup artist and art shed team member Kate to create an easy-to-follow face painting look that is perfect for Halloween, kids parties and more!

You will need:

Mont Marte Kids Face Painting Crayons in Pearl

Mont Marte Gallery Series Acrylic Brush set (varied sizes and shapes)

Mont Marte Face n Body Metallic Body Art pens

Mont Marte Face n Body Glitter in silver

Tutorial:

Step 1. Using the purple colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, draw a shell design between the eyebrows.

Step 2. Again taking the purple colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face painting crayon in Pearl, fill in the top parts of the shell design.

Step 3. Taking the same purple colour from the Kids Face painting crayon in Pearl, draw swirls around the outer portion of face, and try to match the best you can to the opposite side of your face.

Step 4. Using the purple colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, draw some more swirl designs around the outer portion of the face. 

Step 5. Now, taking the blue colour from the Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, fill in the shell shape.

Step 6. Also using the blue colour from the Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, add more swirl designs around the outer portion of face and splash water droplet designs above shell design.

Step 7. Using the teal colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, fill in and blend the colours of shell and add scale shapes and extra swirls around outer portion of the face. Try to keep your designs as symmetrical as possible.

Step 8. Taking the teal colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, fill in your lips.

Step 9. Again using the teal colour from the Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, add some additional shapes and colour to the outer portion of the eyes

Step 10. Now, using the pink colour from the Mont Marte Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, dot the pink onto your cheeks and blend it into skin using your fingers to create a rosy flushed look.

Step 11. Using the pink colour from the Kids Face Painting crayon in Pearl, dot the pink shade across the nose and blend into the skin using the warmth from your fingertips.

Step 12. Now, taking the blue from the Face n Body pens, add glittery dots over your face to create extra sparkle and details.

Step 13. Use a glitter adhesive, clear lip gloss, or moisturiser and mix it with the Mont Marte Silver Face n Body glitter to add extra shimmer to the look. You can apply the glitter mix with a small detailer brush.

Step 14. You can add glitter all over the different parts of the design and across your face to create additional sparkles and highlights, like a true mermaid!

Now you have your completed shimmery mermaid look! You can add extra details if you wish, or even accessories with wigs and costumes to really look the part.
