Calligraphy is as old as writing itself, with origins in prehistoric rock, pictographs, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Calligraphy is now a popular way for artists to express themselves, bringing words to life. Furthermore, it is quite enjoyable to make!

This article explains how to use the Mont Marte Calligraphy Pen Set.

This calligraphy set includes everything you need to create a variety of lettering styles. The five conventional nibs provided are perfect for Roman Round Hand, Italic, Gothic, Uncial, and more! In addition, the introductory and workout materials provided will help you improve your skills.

Handy Hint: For a smooth flow, hold your pen with the nib inclined between 30 and 45 degrees to the paper.

Care: To keep your nibs in good condition, clean them promptly after use.

Includes:

4 x Calligraphy Pens

5 x  Nib Grades

20 x Ink cartridges in various colours

1 x Ink Pen Pump

1 x Introduction booklet

Step-by-step:

1. Install the cartridge

  • Choose a nib that suits your writing style.
  • Insert the ink cartridge into the nib and push until it clicks.
  • Screw the barrel on.

2. Choose the right paper

  • We recommend using a calligraphy book or smooth, bleed-proof paper. Copy paper is also ideal for practising. Draw a few lines to begin the ink flow.
  • The Mont Marte Calligraphy Workbook A4 70gsm 50 Sheet can help you improve and practice your calligraphy skills. The sheets are printed with practice rules and a slanted grid on 70gsm natural white paper.

3. Using a converter

  • A converter lets you utilise the ink from a bottle. Dip the end of your converter into the ink. Pull the tip upwards to fill the cartridge. Push it into the nib until you hear a click. Screw on the barrel, then draw a few lines to get the ink flowing.

4. Writing with your calligraphy pen

  • Hold the pen at roughly a 45-degree angle to the page.
  • TIP: To help keep your lines straight when practising, draw a baseline with a ruler.
  • Ink will only flow if you pull the pen downward while writing.
