Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between single thick and double thick canvas?
Single thick frames are 18mm deep and suit most painting styles. Double-thick frames are 38mm deep and give a gallery-ready finish - no frame needed, and many artists paint the sides for a complete look. For canvases 60cm and over, we recommend double-thick for extra rigidity and to reduce the chance of warping.
What’s the difference between Discovery, Signature, and Premium?
Discovery is the most affordable entry point, great for practice and everyday use. Signature steps up the cotton quality and frame construction. Premium uses a tighter weave and a more refined surface, ideal for detailed and professional work. All three are triple-primed and ready to paint on straight away.
Are these canvases suitable for oil paint?
Yes. All Mont Marte stretched canvas and panels are triple-primed with acid-free gesso and are suitable for acrylic, oil, and mixed media. No additional priming needed unless you prefer a specific surface texture.
What size canvas should I start with?
For beginners, 30 x 40cm or 40 x 50cm gives enough space to work without being overwhelming. For display and wall art, 50 x 60cm to 60 x 90cm are the most popular sizes. If you’re going large for the first time, the 90 x 90cm and 100 x 120cm sizes are at their best value ever during this sale.
