Bronze
Royal Talens Amsterdam Acrylic Ink 30ml
Colour 811, metallic coated mica, semi-opaque, waterproof when dry, 30ml dropper bottle

Gold gets all the attention, but Amsterdam Acrylic Ink 30ml in Bronze by Royal Talens is the metallic that looks expensive without trying. It is a warm, burnished shimmer that catches the light every time the page moves, and it flows easily from a nib, a brush or a dropper. One bottle and your lettering, pours and Christmas cards suddenly have that handmade luxe feel.

★ Art Shed Staff Tip
Metallic inks are made with coated mica, and mica is heavy, so it settles to the bottom of the bottle. Shake it like you mean it before every use, and give your dip pen a quick stir in the bottle between words. It also looks richest on dark or black paper, so try it on a black card before you decide it is not shiny enough.

The lid has a dropper pipette built in for adding precise drops to a pour or a palette, and the neck is wide enough to dip a brush or calligraphy nib straight in.

About Bronze

Bronze is colour 811, one of the Specialty Colours in the Amsterdam Acrylic Ink range. It is made with coated mica, which gives the metallic glow, and it is semi-opaque, so it covers well on dark grounds while still letting texture show through.

Royal Talens gives it their top +++ lightfastness rating, which is 100 years or more under museum conditions, so your gilded details will keep their glow.

How to Use Amsterdam Acrylic Ink

  1. Shake hard. Mica settles, so shake well before you start and give it another shake if you pause.
  2. Pick your tool. Dip a pointed or broad edge nib for lettering, use a brush for details, or the dropper for pours.
  3. Go neat for shine. Metallics look best used undiluted. Too much water spreads the mica out and dulls the glow.
  4. Let it dry fully. Once dry it is waterproof, so you can work around or over it without smudging.
  5. Clean up fast. Rinse nibs and brushes in water straight away, before the ink dries.

Tips for Your Bronze Ink

For calligraphy, keep a scrap of paper beside you and test a stroke each time you reload, because the mica needs to be evenly mixed for an even shine. A smooth, heavier paper or black cardstock gives the crispest metallic lines.

In fluid art, a few drops of bronze through a dark pour gives lovely metallic veins. Because it mixes with acrylic paints and mediums, you can also add it to a pouring medium for an all over shimmer.

Mix and match your metallics with Copper, Gold Deep, Gold Light and Silver, browse all acrylic inks, or shop the full Royal Talens range.

Questions About the Bronze Acrylic Ink

Is Amsterdam Bronze ink metallic?

Yes. Bronze 811 is a metallic Specialty Colour made with coated mica, so it has a real shimmer that moves as the light changes. It is semi-opaque, which means it looks especially rich on black and dark coloured paper.

Can I use Bronze acrylic ink for calligraphy?

Yes, it works well with dip pens and calligraphy nibs. Shake the bottle well and stir between dips, because mica is heavy and settles quickly. Use it undiluted for the strongest shine, and rinse your nib in water as soon as you finish.

What is the difference between Bronze, Copper and Gold in Amsterdam Acrylic Ink?

They are all coated mica metallics with the same +++ lightfastness. Bronze is warmer and browner than the golds and less pink than Copper. If you want a classic gilded look go for Gold Light or Gold Deep, and for a rosy metallic choose Copper.

Will Bronze acrylic ink work on wood or canvas?

Yes. Amsterdam Acrylic Ink works on paper, card, wood and canvas. Royal Talens recommends priming very smooth surfaces like plastic and metal first so the ink grips properly.
