Innovative Australian brand!
Like many art supplies from the beginning of time, the idea for SurfPaints was born from frustration, lack of suitable solutions and a community who had a passion for art. Having conquered the surf community, SurfPaints are embracing the broader art community with products that promise reliability, versatility, and excellence in every stroke.
Unique features include a 4mm & 1mm reversible nib for versatile art strokes, and a specially formulated acrylic blend from Japan designed for vibrant, long-lasting, and smooth application on any surface.
While SurfPaints were engineered for surfboards, the premium water-based acrylic paint nature makes it suitable for multiple surfaces: for your art projects use them on canvas, mixed media, paper, timber, glass, ceramics, wood, and other surfaces include skateboards, fins, helmets, shoes, doors, boats, kayaks, canvas, rocks, cars, glass windows, leather footballs... and more!

Handy hints:
Remember to store your pens in a cool, dry place for proper preservation.
Follow the instructions carefully and ensure an adult supervises any creative kids projects
Once your creation is dry, apply two coats of water-based spray varnish. Hold the spray can about 30 cm away from the surface and spray gently using circular motions.
Choose matte or gloss varnish based on your desired finish.
If using ceramic and it is treated, like glazed porcelain, SurfPaints might take longer to dry. Designs based on lines work well for such surfaces. When applying colour, use multiple coats, letting each coat dry before adding the next.
For rough ceramics with porous surfaces, apply several coats to ensure even coverage, as porous materials absorb more paint. To extend your creation's lifespan (for non-food use), consider applying a water-based or adhesive varnish after fixation. For rough ceramics, the paint can be set by firing your creation in the oven. Gradually heat the ceramic to 220°C, turn off the oven, and allow it to cool completely before removing.
Once dry, these markers become waterproof and permanent on porous surfaces. However, for safety, focus your creativity on the exterior of the ceramics.

If you make a mistake; Removing the paint
You don’t always need to use harsh chemicals to remove Surfpaints paint pens. If it is a minor mistake, then try to go over the area with the paint pen again once the paint has dried.
If the paint is wet, then simply wipe away with a rag or paper towel until it has disappeared. Sometimes you will see a smudge mark left which may require a light rub using steel wool.
If the paint is dry, then use steel wool to remove the paint.
If the paint has been clear coat sprayed, then sand back the clear coat and artwork using 120 - 180 grit sandpaper.
About the brand
Founder Danny Smyth had a mission to develop a great quality solution for painting on surfboards, at the time nothing on the market was effective, and very little information was available on the best techniques for long lasting vibrant artwork.
After finding out there was widespread confusion across the industry, SurfPaints have made it easier than ever before to paint a surfboard by providing premium products, education and inspiration.
Developed with specialists in Japan, these high quality paint markers are becoming a favourite amongst skaters and surfers, artists, students, professional businesses and creative folk around the world.
