This paint is not naturally weatherproof, it may fade in sunlight and degrade after rain. For outdoor use we recommend preparing the surface with a primer and make sure to seal the finished piece for further longevity.

Handy hints:

• Degrease all shiny (non-porous) surfaces thoroughly with glass cleaner or alcohol before painting for best adhesion

• Porous surfaces (timber, terracotta) must be primed prior to painting

• Stir carefully - do not shake as this increases air bubbles

• Brush on thin, even coats and allow to cure fully

• For maximum opacity you might need 2-3 coats, letting it cure in between coats

• Touch dry after 30 minutes, allow to cure for several days before topcoating or handling

• Clean up with soap and water while tools and brushes are still wet, before the paint dries

• Finished piece is not microwave safe, even when bake set.

• A clear topcoat is recommended for longevity.

FAQs

Can FolkArt Enamel Paint be used on outdoor projects?
Yes, it can be used for decorative outdoor projects such as signs, provided the surface is properly sealed with an exterior-grade clear sealer to help guard against weather and UV exposure. It is not a fully weatherproof paint on its own. 

Is FolkArt Enamel Paint 'Acrylic, Enamel, or oil-based' paint?

FolkArt Enamel is a water-based paint with a hard, glossy enamel-like finish. It is not oil-based.

Do I need to bake or heat set FolkArt Enamel Paint?
Your glass or ceramic piece can be baked to cure, providing your piece is heat proof.

Follow the below steps:

1. Let your piece to dry for 24 hours after painting.

2. Place in a cold oven.

3. Set the temperature to 175^o C/350^o F - and bake for 30 minutes. Do not over-bake as this can cause the surface to fail.

4. After 30 minutes turn the oven off. Allow the piece to cool completely before removing from the oven. Do not use or wash for 72 hours.

*This cannot be done in a microwave or air fryer.

Can I let it dry naturally?

If you decide to let it air dry, allow the paint to fully cure for at least 48–72 hours before handling or sealing for best results.The recommended air dry curing time is 21 days.

What surfaces can FolkArt Enamel Paint be used on?
It is suitable for glass, ceramic, metal, wood, terracotta and other non-porous decorative surfaces. Proper surface preparation will improve adhesion and finish quality.

Is FolkArt Enamel Paint dishwasher safe?
No, it is not dishwasher safe. Items painted with enamel paint are for decorative use only and should be hand washed gently if needed, ideally after sealing. 

Can I mix FolkArt Enamel Paint colours together?
Yes, the colours can be mixed to create custom shades. The Clear Medium can also be used to thin colours or create transparent glazing effects.
