Amsterdam Acrylic Paint 600ml Bottle - Titanium White
Our everyday low price
Amsterdam Standard Series Acrylic Paint 600ml Titanium White (105) is the largest bottle Amsterdam makes this colour in, holding 100ml more than the standard 500ml bottle. It is made by Royal Talens in the Netherlands, pigmented with PW6 titanium white, fully opaque, and rated +++ for lightfastness, which is at least 100 years under museum conditions.
Titanium white is the pigment every other colour on the palette borrows from. It is what turns a colour into a tint, what knocks a mix back when it has gone too saturated, and what goes down first on half the canvases in the country. Which is why it is always the tube that runs out in the middle of a session, usually on a Sunday.
★ Art Shed staff tip
Decant white into a smaller jar for the bench and keep the big bottle closed. Every time you open it you let air at the surface, and a skin on top of your largest bottle is the most annoying way to lose paint.
What the extra volume is actually for
- Underpainting and toning a ground, where you get through white faster than any other colour.
- Tinting. Every pastel, every knocked-back mix and every highlight comes out of this bottle.
- Large canvases and murals, where running out mid-session means a visible join.
- Teaching and workshops, where one container has to serve a whole table.
- Mixing your own colours in batch, so the batch stays consistent from one sitting to the next.
How this white behaves
PW6 is a dense, highly opaque white. It covers in one or two coats and it kills transparency, which is exactly what you want when you are correcting or blocking in, and exactly what you do not want in a glaze. Add it to a transparent colour and you trade luminosity for body.
It is also strong in a mix, so it moves a colour further and faster than you expect. Add it in small amounts and stop before you think you should, because a tint is much easier to deepen than an over-whitened mix is to rescue. The Amsterdam Standard Series binder is 100% acrylic resin with a satin finish, so it dries water resistant and recoats the same day.

Questions about Amsterdam 600ml Titanium White
How much paint is in the 600ml bottle?
600ml, which is 100ml more than the standard 500ml bottle of the same colour and roughly five times a 120ml tube. Same paint, same pigment, same finish, just a bigger container.
Is this the same paint as the 500ml bottle?
Yes. It is Amsterdam Standard Series Titanium White 105, PW6, opaque, lightfastness +++, in a larger bottle. Nothing about the formulation changes with the size.
Will a big bottle of white go off before I use it?
Not if you keep it closed and out of the sun. Acrylic cures by water leaving the film, so the enemy is air on the surface. Wipe the thread before you close it, store it upright somewhere that does not freeze, and it will outlast the painting you are using it on.
How do I stop acrylic paint drying on my palette?
Use a stay-wet palette, which is a shallow tray with a damp sponge under a sheet of palette paper, and close the lid between sessions. Failing that, mist the palette with a fine water spray every few minutes and work in smaller mixes. Do not scrape half-dry paint back into the jar, because those lumps will never redisperse and you will find them in a later layer. Acrylic retarder medium buys extra open time if you need it.
Can professional artists use Amsterdam acrylics?
Yes. The question that matters for selling work is permanence, and Amsterdam Standard Series is rated ++ or +++ for lightfastness with a 100% acrylic resin binder that cures water resistant. Where professionals tend to reach for a higher grade is when they need maximum pigment strength in a small area, or very specific single-pigment mixing behaviour. For large canvases, underpainting, murals and blocking in, Standard Series is a sensible professional choice.
How should I store acrylic paint?
Upright, lid on tight, at stable room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Heat and freezing are the two things that ruin acrylic, so a hot car, a tin shed in summer or an unheated garage in a cold winter are all bad storage. Wipe the rim before you close the lid or dried paint will stop it sealing. Never tip used paint from the palette back into the jar, because you are introducing contamination and half-cured lumps.
