Amsterdam Standard Series Acrylic Paint Titanium White (105) Twin Pack holds two 120ml tubes of the same colour, 240ml of paint in total. It is made by Royal Talens in the Netherlands, pigmented with PW6 titanium white, fully opaque, and rated +++ for lightfastness, which is at least 100 years under museum conditions.

Titanium white is the pigment every other colour on the palette borrows from. It is what turns a colour into a tint, what knocks a mix back when it has gone too saturated, and what goes down first on half the canvases in the country. Which is why it is always the tube that runs out in the middle of a session, usually on a Sunday.

★ Art Shed staff tip

Keep the second tube somewhere other than your paint box. One on the bench and one in the cupboard means the day the first runs dry is an inconvenience rather than the end of the session.

Why two tubes rather than one

  • White empties faster than anything else on the palette, so a spare is the one you will use.
  • A tube gives you control a bottle does not. You squeeze what you need and the rest stays sealed.
  • One for the studio and one for the travel kit, without splitting a single tube between them.
  • Classes and shared benches, where one tube never quite goes around.
  • A sealed second tube stays fresh while the first is being opened and closed every session.

How this white behaves

PW6 is a dense, highly opaque white. It covers in one or two coats and it kills transparency, so it is the colour you reach for to block in, to correct, and to lift another colour into a tint. What it will not do is glaze, because adding it to a transparent colour trades luminosity for body.

It has real strength in a mix, so add it a little at a time. The Amsterdam Standard Series binder is 100% acrylic resin with a satin finish, dries water resistant, and takes to canvas, board, paper, MDF and most primed surfaces.

Questions about the Titanium White twin pack

How many tubes come in the twin pack?

Two 120ml tubes of Titanium White 105, so 240ml of paint in total. Both tubes are the same colour.

Is the paint the same as the single 120ml tube?

Identical. Amsterdam Standard Series Titanium White 105, PW6, opaque, lightfastness +++. The only difference is that there are two of them.

Should I buy tubes or the bottle?

Tubes if you want control and portability, because you squeeze out what you need and the rest stays sealed. The bottle if you are covering large areas, toning grounds or teaching a group, where a wide mouth and a lot of paint matter more than precision.

How do I clean acrylic paint out of brushes?

Soap and water, before it dries. Rinse the brush out as soon as you put it down, work lukewarm water and a brush soap into the ferrule where paint hides, and reshape the head before you leave it to dry lying flat or bristles down. Once acrylic cures in a brush, it is a polymer film and no solvent will remove it without wrecking the bristles. The brush you ruin is always the one you left standing in the water jar.

Is Amsterdam a good acrylic paint?

Yes. Amsterdam is made by Royal Talens in the Netherlands, a company that has been making artists' colours since 1899. The Standard Series is a general purpose acrylic built for people who paint a lot, with a 100% acrylic resin binder, a satin finish and lightfastness ratings of ++ or +++ across the range. It is not a heavily pigmented professional colour like Golden Heavy Body, and it is not trying to be. What it is, is a dependable, permanent acrylic you can use freely rather than ration.

Can I use Amsterdam acrylic for a mural?

Yes, it is a common mural choice, and the alkali resistance is the reason. It adheres to stone, plaster, concrete and render without a specialist masonry primer, provided the wall is clean, sound and slightly porous. For an exterior mural, finish with a UV resistant exterior varnish. The paint's lightfastness rating assumes indoor museum conditions, and an Australian north-facing wall is a very different ask.
